Not every beach or waterway in Florida is an ancient stretch of the white beach. A stretch of water in Miami is officially dirty.

Surffer Foundation released its ranking of top “beach bacteria hot spots” in the US, and announced the launch of Park View Kayak in Miami Beach, Florida, ranked 90 percent, as a bacterial hot spot, as a bacterial hot spot. The water is highly polluted, which makes it unsafe for swimming. Beach bacteria hot spots that are ranked, represent a variety of entertaining water, beaches and access points that are important for local communities, but threatens public health.

During 2024, the Sarfider’s Blue Water Task Force processed more than 10,000 water samples from 604 samples sites to determine which spots had unsafe levels of bacteria in which spots. The organization works to inform communities about public health, as well as advocates for safety and cleaning of heavy polluted beaches. The Blue Water Task Force works throughout the year to provide public health protection even during the water task force off-season when water samples are usually not collected.

The problem began in the park view Kayak launch when a sewer main broke in March 2020, causing water flooding with pollution. Typically, pollution from a sewer main break lasts for a few days, but for several reasons, with old infrastructure, pollution park views have been in launch for years. The city has an action plan to address the issue, but despite efforts, the unsafe levels of sewage in water continue.
