Asked if Trump is still committed to the deadline for strike Business By July, Press Secretary Karolin Levitt said the date “is not important.”
“The President can provide a deal to these countries if they refuse to make us one from the time limit,” Levitt said Press briefing,
“And this means that the President can choose a mutual tariff rate that he believes is beneficial for the United States and for the American worker,” he said.
He later said, “It may be extended, but this is a decision for the President.”
In late May, Trump threatened to impose 50% tariff on the European Union. But two days later he agreed to delay that duty by 9 July, European Commission Chairman Ursula von Der Leyen said he needed an expansion to “reach a good deal”.
Trump is also coming against the termination of the 90-day break on almost all other countries on the “mutual” American tariffs imposed.
The reprive, which dropped the near-corner tariff to 10%of the blanket, is ready to end on 8 July.
