According to Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya, about eight to nine workers on the site have gone missing after the incident. Search and rescue operations are currently underway.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local police have been deployed in the area to assist in rescue efforts.
Highway blocked, pilgrimage interrupted
In a separate event, the Badrinath -Rishikesh highway was blocked in Sirobgad on Saturday after the debris collapsed due to heavy rains in some parts of northern graduation. The obstruction has temporarily halted the passenger movement on this important route.
Pilgrims going towards Badrinath, Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib have been advised to stay in safe places until they are cleaned on the streets. Authorities have deployed JCB machines to remove the debris and restore traffic flows as soon as possible.
CM Dhami requested to be vigilant
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has urged residents and passengers to be cautious and avoid unnecessary travel due to the forecast of heavy rains in the area.
In a post shared on X, CM Dhami said, “The Meteorological Department has estimated the possibility of heavy rainfall in the state hill and some plain areas within the next 24 hours. It is requested to be alert, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow the guidelines issued by the administration.”
The Chief Minister also addressed the candidates appearing for the PCS exam prescribed for Sunday, advised them to leave and stay updated on the weather.
“In view of the PCS exam being held tomorrow, I specifically appeal to the candidates to depart in advance for their examination centers, keeping in mind the weather conditions. Both your safety and examination are important for us. The state government is closely monitoring the situation and providing all the necessary assistance to the local administration.”
The officials have asked the public to cooperate with the officials to keep a close watch on the weather updates and ensure the safety of all.
