Officials confirmed that torrential rains on Saturday on Saturday caused floods in Washington DC and parts of neighboring Maryland and Virginia, motivating several emergency rescue operations.Some areas including densely populated suburbs like silver spring recorded more than 5 inches of rain. Several major roads in Montgomery, Prince George and Anne Arundel in Maryland, along with the Fairfax County, were incompeted in Virginia by Saturday evening. In Northwest DC, flood waters drowned the parks parked.Spokesperson of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, Pete Piringer said that the crew responded to several calls and saved dozens of people, which were surrounded by water stuck inside vehicles. “No injury,” he said.The flood sensor showed that Sligo Creek, which flows through the counties of Montgomery and Prince George and parts of the capital, increased by 10 feet in just 30 minutes.In Great Falls, Virginia, about 17 miles from DC, seven people were rescued from a vehicle caught in rapidly growing water, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. The New York Times did not either state any injury in that incident.By 9 pm, most of the severe weather had passed, although isolated rains were possible. Flood warnings were effective late Saturday night for parts of southern Montgomery County, Northern Fairfax County and Washington DC sections.
