If he wants to resume diplomatic talks, the US should rule Iran on any other attack, Tehran’s Deputy Foreign Minister has told the BBC.

Majid Takht-Rawenchi says that the Trump administration has told Iran through mediators that he wants to return to negotiations, but during the talks, “did not clear” its position on “very important questions” of further attacks during negotiations.

Israel’s military campaign, which began in the early hours of June 13, created a sixth round of indirect negotiations in Muscat two days later.

The US directly joined the conflict between Israel and Iran in the last weekend when it targeted three Iranian nuclear sites in a bombing raid.

Takht-Rawenchi also said that Iran would “insist” insisting that it is a peaceful purpose, capable of enriching uranium for this, it has been dismissed that Iran was moving towards developing a atomic bomb secretly.

He said that Iran was “denied access to nuclear material for its research program” so “to trust itself”.

“That level can be discussed, the ability can be discussed, but to say that you should not have enrichment, you should be zero enrichment, and if you don’t agree, we will bomb you – this is the jungle law,” said the Deputy Foreign Minister.

Israel started its attacks, killing atoms and military sites as well as commanders and scientists, in Iran on 13 June, Tehran claims that Tehran was close to making an nuclear weapon.

Iran responded by attacking Israel with missiles. The enmity continued for 12 days, during which the US dropped bombs at three nuclear sites in Iran: Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan.

The limit of damage to Iran’s nuclear program by US attacks is not clear, and Takht-Ravenchi said it cannot give accurate evaluation.

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) head Rafael Gossi stated that the strike seriously caused “total” damage, while US President Donald Trump announced that Iran’s nuclear facilities were “completely slant”.

Iran’s relationship with IAEA has become increasingly tense. On Wednesday, its Parliament went to suspend cooperation with the nuclear watchdog, alleging siding with Israel and the United States.

Trump has said that he would consider bombing Iran again, if the intelligence found that it could enrich uranium.

Takht-Rawenchi said that the talks had not agreed on any date for a possible return and they did not know what would happen on the agenda, Trump suggested that there could be a discussion this week.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister said, “We are right now we are seeking answers to this question: Are we going to see the recurrence of a work of aggression while engaging in the dialogue?”

He said that America should “be quite clear on this very important question” and “What are they going to offer to create the necessary confidence for such dialogue”.

Asked whether Iran can consider reconsideration of its nuclear program as part of any deal, possibly in exchange for relief and investment of restrictions in the country, Takht-Rawenchi said: “Why should we agree on such a proposal?”

He reiterated that Iran’s program, including enriching uranium to 60%, was “for peaceful purposes”.

Under the 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, Iran was not allowed to enrich uranium above 3.67% purity – the required level for fuel for commercial nuclear power plants – and no enhancement was allowed at its Fordo plant for 15 years.

However, Trump left the agreement in 2018 during his first term as President, stating that it was very low to stop a route for a bomb, and restored US sanctions.

Iran retaliated by rapid dissolving restrictions – especially related to promotion. It resumed the enrichment in the Fordo in 2021 and according to the IAEA, collected a 60%-enriched uranium enough to make nine atomic bombs.

European and Western leaders lack faith in Iran, Takht-Ravenchi accused some European leaders of “ridiculous” support of the US and Israel attacks.

He said that those who are criticizing Iran in their nuclear program should “criticize the way we have been treated” and criticize America and Israel.

He said: “And if they do not have the courage to criticize America, they should remain silent, not try to justify aggression.”

Takht-Rawenchi also said that Iran had received messages through intermediaries that the US targeted the country’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei “did not want to engage in the change of governance in Iran”.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called upon the Iranians to “get up for their freedom” to bring down the clerical rule of Khameni, but, after the last week’s ceasefire, Trump said that he did not want so.

Takht-Rawenchi insisted that this would not happen and the idea was “Tantamount for a fruitless exercise”.

He said that although some Iranian “can criticize some tasks by the government, they will unite to face it when it comes to foreign aggression”.

The Deputy Foreign Minister said that if the ceasefire with Israel would go on, it was “not quite clear”, but Iran would continue to see it “as long as there is no military attack against us”.

He said that Iran’s Arab colleague in the Persian Gulf was “trying his best to try to create the necessary environment for a dialogue”. Qatar has played an important role in brokening the current ceasefire.

He said: “We do not want war. We want to engage in dialogue and diplomacy, but we have to be ready, we have to be cautious, not surprised again.”
