Who is affected by the new railway fare hike?
The new fare is mainly applied:
- Ordinary passenger trains
- Mail/Express Trains
- Premium trains like Rajdhani, Shatabadi, Vande Bharat, Duronto, Tejas, etc.
- There will be no change in fare to suburban trains and season ticket holders.
No change in fares for trips up to 500 km
If you are traveling 500 km or less, there is no fare in second class ordinary coaches. Hike begins only for long distances.

For the second class (ordinary non-AC, non-unging):
- 0 – 500 km: no increase
- 501 – 1500 km: 5 rupees.
- 1501 – 2500 km: Rs 10.
- 2501 – 3000 km: Rs 15.

What is not changing?
- No change in suburban fares or weather tickets
- No amendment in reservation fee, superfast surcharge or GST rules
- No change in fare round methods
When do new fares apply?
- From July 1, 2025, the revised fares will apply to all tickets booked on this date or after.
- The tickets booked before July 1 will be valid at older rates, in which no adjustment is necessary.
Indian Railways has directed all zones to update rent boards and make changes in ticketing system (PRS, UTS, manual) accordingly.
