Thousands of people are running away from Tehran as Israel continues with its airstrikes

Fear and stress in my sister’s voice in Tehran are clear, despite cracking, stopping WhatsApp connection – miraculously – still works from time to time.

Clarity is what she wants from me, knowing that I am a journalist with BBC in London.

“What is going to happen? What should we do?” She asks. US President Donald Trump has said that people should be vacated in Tehran. “Is he serious?”

Since Thursday night, Tehran has come under frequent bombing by Israeli aircraft, flying independently in the sky of the capital. They meet anti-aercraft fire-which is mostly ineffective.

From her window on the upper floors of a high-growth building, my sister can clearly see action, which is very low to calm her veins.

The Israeli army has ordered people in its district – spread for several kilometers in all directions – to empty. But he has chosen to live.

She told me that, as far as she knew, her apartment block had no military-type goals.

Nevertheless, she was concerned about a nearby commercial unit – owned, she believed, by revolutionary guards – which could be a target. He did not know what the company really did.

Many people do not know who their neighbors are or whether military targets are close, because most of the activity of the revolutionary guard is conducted from secret and hidden places.

Electricity and water are still available in many parts of capital, but food supply is running low.

Many shops are closed, and many are closing their doors. Even the bakers are shutting down – due to lack of some flour, others are likely to have the possibility as the owners have run away.

My sister has refused to leave the city contrary to hundreds of thousands – maybe millions – which are already already, mostly because she is nowhere.

Despite the lack of jam-pack roads and petrol, many residents have fled in recent times.

Tehran roads, once with traffic, are very calm.

People who are barely out of attacks are afraid of attacks.

Recent reports suggest that long queues at petrol stations have started easily, and roads outside the capital are less crowded.

Residents living near the nuclear facilities of the country face fear in addition to the spread of radioactive contamination, as these sites have been repeatedly targeted by Israeli attacks in recent times.

Global Nuclear Watchdog has so far stated that the level of radioactivity outside the two sites on Friday that was attacked and damaged is unchanged.

People are asking where all this will lead, and how long will it last.

Many now rely on the Persian-language TV channels located abroad for news.

BBC Persian TV service and its website have become the major source. The web traffic from inside Iran is almost doubled overnight, yet the internet slows down most of the time.

Trump has called for Iran’s surrender, but Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has just announced that Iran will not surrender.

Some are sympathetic with the Iranian regime, but there are many fear that it can follow chaos and anarchy if it is quite unstable.
